Situated on the edge of a dramatic cliff overlooking the Batoka Gorge, lies the tranquil Taita Falcon Lodge. The mighty Zambezi River cuts through the gorge below, providing some of the most eye-catching scenery in Zambia. When owner Faan stumbled across this secret hideaway, he decided to build a lodge and construct it from stone and thatch, utilising local materials from the area.
The basic design is an extension of the wilderness and is careful not to intrude on the wild beauty of its surroundings. Located just a stone's throw away from Victoria Falls, Taita Falcon Lodge is the perfect base to explore the area.
This secluded lodge has a total of 7 en-suite chalets each named after a bird of prey that can be seen soaring the skies. Décor is simple and comprises a few handmade crafts and natural features, keeping in tune with its wilderness surroundings. The lodge is all about the views, with every angle taking advantage of its positions.
With its vast viewing platform, open-air bar and lounge perched over the sheer cliffs, it’s the perfect place to take in Zambia’s scenic vistas. Meandering stone-lined pathways lead the way through the grounds from the main lodge, bar, pool and boma area around to the secluded chalets.
Surrounding the lodge there are various walks weaving their way through indigenous forests of ancient mopane, white seringas, marulas, leadwoods and African star chestnuts. Off-site there is a multitude of activities available to suit thrill-seekers and wildlife lovers. From white water rafting down the Zambezi, to interacting with elephants, exploring the falls on foot, game drives, and indulging in sundowner cruises; Taita can organise something for everyone.
