Week in Pics: Lions are Loving the Festive Season

Whatever your denomination, or lack thereof, there’s no denying that there’s an air of festivity surrounding us. It seems our wildlife is getting involved in celebrating the silly season. We’ve seen some strange animal species hanging out together in the echoing darkness of the Kruger. Crocodiles, hippos and buffalo are sharing their space, the lions are feasting, birds are twittering and plains game are darting to and fro from bush to bush. Our animals are in holiday mood. And so are we! Let’s recap on the highlights from the week.

Africa on Foot & nThambo Tree Camp

The festive season is upon us. And with it brings a sense of merriment from our resident lion prides. The notorious Hercules Pride took down a buffalo close to Africa on Foot camp. While rangers Mike and Greg were retiring to their quarters they heard the unmistakable wail of a kill taking place. The rangers woke guests up and everyone clambered inside the game viewer vehicle to witness nature at its finest.

Another highlight from our camps was the exceptional sighting of a wildlife party in progress at our standard sundowner spot. While guests enjoyed a few beverages; crocodiles, hippos and buffalo put on a display for them. Another moment for the books!

Our endangered nomadic painted dogs returned to our traverse during the course of the week, providing yet another exceptional sighting for guests. This is the same pack who denned in our area at the beginning of the year. Only one of the pups have survived but he looks like he is making his mark on the world!

Yet another eventful week in the Klaserie.

Ezulwini River Lodge and Ezulwini Billy’s Lodge

Ezulwini Game Lodes are a major drawcard for huge breeding herds of elephant. Recently, a huge bull elephant in musth visited the River Lodge. He bathed himself in mud and decided to wander over to the game viewer vehicle. It was at that point we decided to vacate the area! The Balule has seen incredible sunsets recently, making for postcard perfect settings. Our gentle plains game have been wandering around in their herds grazing to their heart’s content and the beautiful birds of the Balule are putting on quite a display of colours for us.
